A hypnotherapy session with me runs about an hour, whether we meet in person here in Nashville/Brentwood or by Zoom. We start with conversation — I need to understand what you’re working with before we do anything else. From there, I guide you into a relaxed, focused state (not sleep, not “under,” and not a loss of control), and we work directly with the specific pattern behind what’s bringing you in, whether that’s panic, a phobia, or a subconscious response that talk alone hasn’t shifted. You’re aware and in control the entire time, and the session closes with a conversation about what came up. No stage tricks, no swinging watch, nothing that resembles what movies show. Here’s the full walkthrough, step by step.
Before Your Session — the Discovery Call
Most new clients start with a Discovery Call, a real conversation, not a sales pitch. It’s $47, and it exists so we can talk through what you’re actually dealing with before committing to anything further. I’ll ask questions, you’ll ask questions, and by the end we’ll both know honestly whether hypnotherapy, BWRT®, or a combination of the two, is the right fit for your specific situation. This is also where we decide which technique makes the most sense: Clinical Hypnotherapy, BWRT®, or a customized combination.
Where Sessions Happen
I see clients in person in the Nashville/Brentwood area, and by Zoom for anyone who prefers to work from home or isn’t local. Both formats work well for hypnotherapy — what matters most is that you’re somewhere quiet and comfortable where you won’t be interrupted.
What Actually Happens During the Session
We start by talking. I need to understand your specific pattern — what triggers it, how long it’s been going on, what you’ve already tried — before we do any actual hypnotherapy work, because a generic script doesn’t hold up against a real nervous system. From there, I guide you into a relaxed, focused state using your breath and voice cues. This isn’t sleep and it isn’t “going under” — you can hear everything happening in the room, you can speak if you want to, and you could stop the process at any point if you needed to. While you’re in that relaxed state, we work directly with the pattern we identified — the subconscious response driving your anxiety, panic, or the phobia we’re addressing. Toward the end, I bring you back to full alertness gradually, and we talk through what came up and what to expect between now and your next session.
What Hypnotherapy Is Not
It’s worth naming the myths directly, because they keep people from trying something that could genuinely help them. You will not lose control. You will not do or say anything against your will. You will not be “unconscious” or unaware of your surroundings. There’s no swinging pocket watch, and I can’t make you cluck like a chicken — that’s stage hypnosis, an entertainment act built on audience volunteers who want to perform, and it has nothing to do with the clinical work we do together.
How Long It Takes and How Many Sessions You’ll Need
Most sessions run about an hour. How many you’ll need depends entirely on what we’re working with and which technique fits best. Some clients see real movement in one Clinical Hypnotherapy session, while BWRT® is offered as a 3-session package, where your first session is booked directly and I schedule the next two with you as we go. We’ll talk through the right approach for you during your Discovery Call, rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all number up front.
After Your Session
Most clients leave feeling noticeably calmer and lighter, though everyone’s experience is a little different. I’ll often give you something small to notice or practice between sessions — not homework in the traditional sense, just a way to reinforce the shift we’re working toward. If you’re doing a multi-session package, we’ll schedule your next session based on how things are unfolding for you, not a rigid calendar.
Hypnotherapy is a complementary technique and is not a replacement for medical or mental health treatment. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any medical or psychological condition. Many clients use this work alongside — not instead of — care from their doctor or therapist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be unconscious or “under” during hypnosis?
No. You’re in a relaxed, focused state the entire time — aware of your surroundings, able to hear and speak, and in control throughout. It’s closer to the calm, drifting feeling right before sleep than to being unconscious.
How long does a session take?
Most sessions run about an hour, whether we’re working in person or over Zoom.
Do I need to come to Nashville in person, or can I do this by Zoom?
Either. I offer sessions in person in the Nashville/Brentwood area and by Zoom, so you can choose whichever works best for your schedule and comfort.
What if hypnosis “doesn’t work on me”?
This is one of the most common worries I hear, and it’s almost always based on a misunderstanding of what hypnosis actually is. It isn’t a party trick that works on some people and not others — it’s a natural, relaxed, focused state that most people can access with the right guidance. We’ll also make sure we’re using the right technique for you, which is part of what we sort out during your Discovery Call.
How do I know if I need Clinical Hypnotherapy, BWRT®, or something else?
That’s exactly what your Discovery Call is for. We’ll talk through what you’re dealing with, and I’ll tell you honestly which approach — or combination — makes the most sense for your specific situation.
